The second-hand marketplace Users Express Frustration Over Size Updates
Shoppers are voicing their frustration following a change that caused listings displaying inaccurate size information.
The second-hand shopping app has altered its sizing categories for women's and children's garments failing to inform every member regarding the update.
Social Media Response
Many shoppers and sellers have taken to social media stating that platform listings now display a modified sizing category compared to what was initially listed as a result of the reclassification.
The company said the revised method more closely matches similar services.
The platform has recommended to check their listings and update the measurements by hand when needed, resulting in member annoyance.
Measurement Approach Changes
Earlier, the measurements included a single numeric size and a letter, for instance S/8 or M/10.
The revised method features a letter with a size spectrum such as S/UK 8-10.
In some cases, the size labels have been reassigned - for example a size L used to be a 12 but now shows as UK 16-18.
User Stories
One content creator, who produces content about larger sizing, explained the modification "makes transactions more difficult".
"Rarely do manufacturers list XL as sizes 20-22," which is what Vinted now does.
Stephanie Gallen, based in Glasgow, explained products she uploaded featuring size 14 markings were showing in the marketplace as measurements 20-22.
"Should someone sized 20-22 purchase these they're going to be very disappointed," she explained.
Required Changes
A different user, based in Derby, stated she felt frustrated because the modification necessitated personal updates the measurements for "each individual item".
"Personally, this is quite irritating, as I'm chronically ill and platform income has been essential after experiencing income reduction," she said.
Platform Context
The platform boasts over 100 million shoppers, comprising 18 million UK members.
It has proved a popular alternative versus similar marketplaces including eBay and Depop.
This is not the initial instance that an unexpected update within the service has received backlash: previously, the platform withdrew an update concerning shipment methods following member complaints.
